Hi!!! I am pranab mukherjee i have also finished the three mistakes of life.I very much agree with you really the last part of the story is turned around to be more commercial i.e. like more of a hindi film story. especially the ending.Any how can't tell a must read but can be tried once. Thanks
i did not like the book at all...i think the whole book is commercial, not just the last part...it lacks in research of any kind...om's character is not developed at all, so one feels no sorrow when he dies...it is also rather obvious that bhagat does not watch cricket

My first and the best ever read novel
The story iz complicated fr those people who hv never been in habit of reading such beautiful emotional buks.............i liked d story very very much............even waiting fr d movie based on it..........kai po che!!!!!!!!!!
Even kai po che is the same. but the one who has read the book and remembers the story, then only he'll understand the movie, because, the movie is made in a "shortcut" way. The screen adaptation is done cleverly. Story runs fast and no specific background for a particular character or situation. and about the last part, i haven't read the book fully (only reached half the pages) but yeah the one youngster ISHAAN, who dies in the end, its very bad. and sad too ! that should have been ignored. Overall book is good.! A worth reading !
Hmmm When one wonders why such cliches in Hindi movies sells, books in similar lines, to script more movies, surely is bound to hit big !!! After all they unfortunately cater the spicy tastes of a good majority for certain . . Its just the ones with a sour tongue that have to be contend with the least in the contents . . But that said, Kai Po Che certainly is a lil relief from the usual [email protected]#$%^&* that hits the screens week in week out . . With the Oscars over, trend tends to peep into the English territory only to wonder what hit them i guess, such sweet spot in taste isn't really that well defined in this majority . . But can't help wonder the difference in class and standard of the same, which surely will be understood by those who have long been tasting such great servings !!! THat brings such few ones to ponder if ever Hindi movies will grow up, especially when even the ones they send for the Oscar entry itself describes shamelessness !!!! Not to mention the unfair treatment to many a brilliant regional movie in Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam which could at least stand in the list of the class of foreign ones . . The review is very apt. I haven't read the book but just saw the movie. It just get unnecessarily heady towards the end. My sole question is - what are the THREE MISTAKES if to be defined clearly?
1. Buying the shop in the mall which they knew they could not afford. 2. Sleeping with Vidya 3. The third one wasn't shown in the movie. Its related to Ali.. Read the book for that one :P

TO PEOPLE WHO SAID THAT THIS BOOK, "THREE MISTAKES OF MY LIFE" IS DISAPPOINTING, Dearies it seems that you people are rather too practical with giving no way for emotions or your life is heading towards no where or you far too advanced for CB's writing maybe!!(God knows what).... It turns out that this novel has impressed me .... coz I've seen it deeper than outer line given. Omi's death would only touch if you had bonding friends in reality and if you would have empathised him. well, Ishaan is like WOW!!(EXCEPT in not accepting Govind and Vidya) The patriotic blast in his blood and passionate about cricket!! For people should learn from him what patriotism and passion of life is!! the protaganist seems not to stay in my mind same goes with Vidhya and the religious freaks living in there.. But ALI , hats off to him.. the young,innocent, talented kid who scores the love of my heart far more than anything in this book!

Its amazing, but describing the vidhya's charecter is not good .ending is awesome
You should have a balanced sense of emotion & practicality when you are doing criticis of novels or any kind of arts. But really what you are doing here? You are so desperate to compare the novel with bolly movies that you find several passionate lines cheesy & even saying that saving a boy's life is not meaningful to you. What are you made of dear? Even the beasts have minimum of hearts. It was not only for his gift, the gift words were for excuses to save him, but they mentioned quite a few times that they care, especially Ishan, Govind too at the end. Besides this, if anyone is partriotic that is drama to you, protocol line about best friend's sister is cheesy for you, seriously where are you from? Even if you are from some high societies, don't you know minimum of small town things? And here you are with your critics, with all these horrible senses? And not only these books characters, but many did suffer directly from both the earthquake & riots in Gujarat, so stop giving such dumb peculiar conclusions by saying that it's not realistic. Not that I'm saying this is the best book, but enough likable, there are realities ( not for half-sensed or half-knowledged ones) & passions which is not present in everyone who never think out of the box, as a result they find it unrealistic, for example, like going to Australia. One can surely find faults while doing critics, but here every negative point stated is so bizarre. The foolest criticism I have ever read, & shocked to see several foxes as well in the comment section(one started wooouuuu, then the rest are joining too - wooouuuu wouuuuuu), for people with such kind of mindsets India is still lagging so much behind in several professional aspects.
It was a solid book, way better than the movie adaptation. I wish there was a big more character development with the main character, but besides by that the book was very good from the plot to the small details in the characters personalities. It isn't perfect but i don't think any book is perfect. Its basically the term "popcorn movie", but for a book.

The Three Mistakes of My Life is a story about business, cricket, and religion. It is the story of three friends living in Ahmedabad, India. The story begins with the email from unknown to Mr. Bhagat telling that he has tried to do suicide as he makes three mistakes in his life. After knowing who sends the email (Govind Patel), Mr. Bhagat wants to meet him in Ahmedabad,
India. Hence, he directly flies to India from Singapore to know what is wrong with him. When he arrives at the place where Govind is hospitalized, Govind gets shocked to see the person to whom he sends the email. Then, Mr. Bhagat asks him to tell what had happened, but he refused to do so. he thinks it is personal matter that no one can know about it. Thereof, Mr. Bhagat assures Govind that everyone will put a sympathy about his story. After long talks, Govind is willing to tell his story. Govind is good at math and wants to be a businessman. Ishaan is fond of playing Cricket, but he fails to reach his dream to be national player. Omi is the son of the priest of local temple, but he doesn’t want to be a priest someday. Comparing to Ish and Omi, Govind has the lowest in economic condition as his father left him and he lives in poor. Therefore, he can’t go to college and does tuitions about math. This is the reason why he loves business as he earns money from his own doing. Given that he wants to make his dream come true, he invites his best friends to help him. Govind has an idea to erect a cricket shop. Omi and Ish agree with it. Then, they start a small business by selling everything related to Cricket. The shop is in the temple organized by Omi’s family. The name of the shop is ‘The Team India Cricket Shop’.
Govind has more ambitions as his business in cricket shop grows up well. They get their share and the remaining is kept for the business. Ish asks what it is for and Govind says it is for their business. He doesn’t even want to spend it to buy a TV as Ish requests. Govind tells that their shop should be expanded by renting a place in Navrangpura mall. Even he has idea to do another business in their shop. For instance, Govind starts doing math tuitions, Ish offers cricket coaching class, and Omi gives fitness training. All of these ideas are coming from Govind to increase the revenue. Then, an earthquake happens and it damages a lot of infrastructure in some regions in India, including Navrangpura. Given that he has new shop there, Govind goes there to check if his shop is fine. What a terrible scenery it is, he sees all of the buildings in Navrangpura collapses. Their shop is destroyed even before it opens. Govind feels hopeless and shocked to see that his future success is gone. It makes him regret for putting so much money on his business, this is his first mistakes.
One day, Ishaan asks Govind to help his sister, Vidya, to learn math. Vidya wants to enter the medical college and she need to pass the exam on math. Govind is eager to do so as it was his friend’s request. He wants to help his best friend. Then, govind starts teaching mathematics to Vidya. Govind struggles to make her understand every course in maths. Even Govind makes rules to organize his math tuitions toward Vidya.
Also, Ishaan meets Ali for the first time. Ali is a muslim boy who has good skill in playing cricket. Hence, Ali is taught by Ishaan to improve his ability. There is a moment when the three friends go to Goa to watch Ali playing in cricket match. Luckily, they meet Fred Li, who is an Australian team member. Fred Li sees the marvelous skill Ali has in playing crickets so that he suggests Ali to learn in cricket academy there. Therefore, the three friends and Ali are invited to go to Sydney. They go to Sydney and experience many things. Besides to train Ali in playing cricket, they get along quite well with the Australians. Fred spots the outstanding talent of Ali. He offers a scholarship for the talented boy, but Ish says that they only stay there for a week. After observing the performance of Ali in playing cricket for several days, Fred Li and his aussie friends want to give him a scholarship. Unfortunately, he must be Australian to get it. Ali directly refuses the offer as he doesn’t want to do so. He is proud to be an Indian. He wants to play cricket for India, not for Australia.
Govind comes back to India after staying for a week in Australia. Then he visits Vidya in order to give math tuitions. When he comes, he gives her the sand beach as she requested. In the middle of discussion about mathematics, Vidya talk about the maturity as she is 18 now. One day, he comes to Vidya’s house to celebrate her birthday. He brings a birthday cake for her. They relationship becomes clearer that they are now loving each other; they are couple. Unfortunately, Ish doesn’t know at all about it till now. The shocking part of this novel is Vidya and Govind do physical intimate again, even they do intercourse. This is Govind’s second mistakes.
One morning, Bittoo Mama (Omi’s maternal uncle) finds a news about the train accident at Godra station. It is caused by angry mobs throwing rocks and burns bogie. Based on news, this mob is Muslims. Omi tells Govind that his brother, Dhiraj died. After that, Govind asks Omi, Ish, and Ali gather at the bank as the city is in chaos. The mob create destruction in the city. Therefore, Govind and friends stay there for a while to be safe. The mass is hindu and they get a bit shocked to see Mama among those people. Mama gets angry as he lose his son. Then, she provoke the Hindu mob looking for muslims as they blame them in the train accident. I assume that these people want to abolish muslim civilization in India. Even Bittoo Mama wants Ali; she wants to kill him as well.
Omi still persuades Mama not to do such extreme doing, whereas Govind makes people calm down. Ali is in another room. Then, the Hindu mobs rampage, attack the three friends, and even burn the room at the bank. Govind and friends directly go to where Ali is and save him in the vault. Ish gives him phone to make a light. The three make effort to beat them by using LPG. Unfortunately, some people in the mob still alive and go toward them.
Bitto Mama orders the mob to catch them all. During this terrible situation, Vidya calls Govind, but it is picked up the phone. Accidentally, Ish knows the SMS sent by Vidya. Because he finally knows the relation between Govind and his sister, he gets angry. Then, he beats Govind all of a sudden. Govind tries to explain but Ish has been on fire. They quarrel each other. In my opinion, Govind is wrong and it is too late to clarify. He lost trust from Ish. Then, Omi asks them not to do so in this situation. They need to fight Mama and the mob. Not long after that, a phone rings inside the vault. Mama guesses there is someone there and he insists to open it. She is going to kill him with knife just as she opens the vault’s door. Suddenly Omi secures Ali from Mama’s doing. What a brave man he is! Omi died. Omi is a bit cynical to Muslim, but he saves a muslim? I respect much to Omi. Knowing that he is safe, Ali flees. Then Mama chases him. Govind wants to save Ali, but he thinks twice to do so. Govind is afraid to be like Omi. Govind is brave to save ali in the long run but it is a bit late. Ali’s wrist is hurt though he is safe. This is his third mistakes; because his selfishness, he is late to save Ali without getting hurt
Short Biography of the Author
On April 22, 1974, in Dehli, India, Baghat was born to a traditional Punjabi bourgeois family. His father served as lieutenant colonel in the Indian army while his mother worked in agricultural department of government. He received most of his education in his hometown. In 1978, he was enrolled in Army Public School and later attended the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Subsequently, he studied at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and married a fellow student, Anusha Suryanarayanan, in 1998. Upon graduation, he moved to Hong Kong with his family, where he worked for eleven years with Goldman Sachs as an investment banker. On his return to India, he shifted to Mumbai from New Delhi. With the shift he also switched his career choice and embarked on his passion for writing. He won the Society Young Achiever’s Award in 2000 and the Publisher’s Recognition Award in 2005. Chetan Bhagat also a found himself place in the Time magazine’s list of “World’s 100 Most Influential People” in the year 2010. Review of the Book (Comments and Recommendation)
Well, I think it contains the value of Indian culture such as the Gujarati people who believe that business is their passion and blood, cricket as the most popular sport in India, and the tension between two religions over there. There are three mistakes done by the narrator of this novel, Govind. The first mistake is he invests all of his money to put up new business but it collapses soon afterward as there is earthquake. He just pursues the happiness of himself, so he is a hedonist. The value of life I can get from this is we shouldn’t chase for money all the time, we shouldn’t be careless. From what Govind does, one should think before doing something. The second is he betrays his friend, Ishaan, as he falls in love with Ish’s sister, Vidya, while he gives math tuition to her and even he has intercourse with her. This make me learn to keep my lust in life, to abandon the bad thing, and focus on the purpose. I learn that Govind finally can’t resist his lust and disown his promise to Ishaan.Third mistakes comes when Govind is late to save Ali as he thinks of himself. In this part, I found that we, as human, mustn’t be selfish. In life, people should help each other without being hesitate to do the good deeds.
As what I’ve told in the beginning paragraph, this novel attaches the historical aspect in terms of religion, business, and cricket. The event telling about conflict between Bittoo Mama and the Muslims was real. Based on dawn.com, there was Gujarat riots in 2002 followed by the communal violence between Hindu and the minority Muslims over there. As you know that the intension between both religions still exist nowadays. Another aspect stated in this novel is business. In the first chapters of the story, Govind tells that business is his blood as he is Gujarati living in Ahmedabad. This is true fact as based on http://www.welcometoahmedabad.com , commerce and industry is a way of life over there. Ahmedabad is the fifth richest city in India as there are so many industries such as textile, pharmaceutical, stock exchange, etc. “There is something about Gujarati, we love business. And Ambadadis love it more than anything else. Gujarat is the only state in India where people tend to respect you more if you have a business than if you are in service.” (page 15).
Cricket also has become the most played sport in India. This sport has existed in India since 19th century when India was colonialized by England. The number of people playing cricket was massive at that time. Cricket was played in many cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and another small cities. By the time changes, cricket has become so popular among the Indian in 20th and 21st century. No wonder many people invest their stock and put up business dealing with cricket. Therefore, India is the country regarding cricket as the King of Sport, and India ever won cricket world cup in 1983. Another historical context stated in this novel is the tragedy of 9/11 in the USA. It happened in 2001 and it was mentioned within the story that the setting is also in 2001. ‘Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center Twin Towers located in New York,’ the BBC news channel reader said (page 109). This was the means used by the Hindu to oppress the Muslims over there as they blame Muslims for this tragedy. ‘Muslim terrorists, I guarantee you,’ Mama said as his phone rang. (page 109).
To sum up, this novel contains many messages that can be seen in everyday life. Moreover, three mistakes of my life also exposes some historical occasions ever happened in India or during the time Bhagat wrote it as the events in the story. Hence, we can learn values of life and history of India by reading Three Mistakes of My Life.
Recommendation
I really enjoy reading this novel as I am not only entertained by its story, but also educated by the values that is told by the author. This novel is exciting as you will learn how the author of the novel connects the story of Govind Patel with some historical and cultural background happening in India and abroad. Bhagat exposes the custom of Ahmedabad, the relationship of two religions in India, and the typical sport most played by Indian. Hence, besides writing the story, Bhagat wants to introduce what India is about and what was happening during his work. I suggest this book to be one of your list in reading because the adventure highlighted in the story can make you want to turn from page to page.

The three mistakes of my life is a novel by Chetan bhagat. There are three friends in the story Govind, Ishaan and omi. Govind is trying to commit suicide and somehow Chetan bhagat gets to know about it.
Thereby he readily rushes out to Govind and finds him already admitted to a hospital. According to the doctors he is out of danger now. But Chetan Bhagat is curious about the reason, Govind tries to commit suicide.
Although during the conversation Govind describes the three mistakes of his life. According to Govind, those three mistakes were the reason, he tries to kill himself.
The three mistakes of my life is a very interesting novel. However, there is also an Indian movie based on this novel. ”The three mistakes of my life” is one of the most appreciable novels of Chetan bhagat. Hence It has been overwhelmingly liked by readers all over the globe.

The next day Chetan bhagat visits the civil hospital of Ahmedabad where Govind was admitted. He tells him about his presence and also asks him about the reason he tries to kill himself. Hence Govind tells him about the three mistakes of his life which were the reason all he did. The story goes in a flashback and Govind starts the story by introducing his friends.
THE FLASHBACK
There are three friends Govind, Omi, and Ishaan. Govind is very simple and belongs to a poor family. He is very good at studies, especially in mathematics. He wants to be an engineer but he fails to get admission to an engineering college. Although notwithstanding it does not bother him at all, because now he wants to run a business and be independent.
Whereas Ishaan loves playing cricket. he dreams to play cricket for his country and keeps high expectations from himself. He is very competitive and talented.
Omi is the third one, he is the son of a priest who works at a temple. He does not have any dreams like Govind and Ishaan contrary he does not even know what he wants to become.
In the inception period, everything was going just awesome but then they realize the missing factor. Actually, one shop was not enough for the survival of these three young friends. They could not fulfil their requirements from just a small sports shop. Thereby giving decides to buy a shop in the mall but in order to buy that, they had to arrange some capital so they also decide to do a part-time job.
Ishaan starts a cricket coaching academy and Govind starts teaching kids in order to make some extra money. Ishaan also sends his sister vidya in Govind’s tuition classes. Although during this period Govind and vidya also develop a love for each other.
THE ACCIDENT
Now life was going quite smooth but then abruptly one day an earthquake hits the city and the room which they bought got demolished completely. As Govind and others get to know about his tragedy, they could not believe this whatsoever and were all stunned.
They had put all their money, efforts and expectations in order to buy it, but all went in futile. Thereafter Govind even goes into depression and meanwhile, vidya helps him get normal.
first mistake
Govind deems Staking all his money on a single project as his first mistake . Days pass by and one day Ishaan notices Ali playing cricket. Ali is exceptionally good at playing cricket. Ishaan is interested in Ali and his magical techniques of hitting the ball out of the ground. Although Ali faced a major issue, he could not play concentrated for some longer.
Ishaan cares about Ali and is concerned about his sensitive condition. Finally, Ishaan gets to know that Ali actually suffered from hyper reflex due to which he could access the coming ball 10 times better than others. Although that was also the reason he would not be able to last for any longer in the ground.
There is a cricket match being played between India and Australia in Goa. Thereby Ishaan gets Ali along with his friends there. Ishaan introduces Ali to Fredley who is an Australian cricket player. Fredley tests Ali’s techniques of playing cricket and gets perplexed to witness such an amazing player.
He invites all of them to Australia. Where the Australian sports academy and AIS approaches Ali to offer scholarship under the condition of accepting Australian citizenship.
Although Ali does not like this offer whatsoever and hence he abjures it. Meanwhile, Govind is missing vidya immensely. He wants to make love with her but she was not around.
THE RIOTS
Vidya’s birthday is near and thereby Govind suggests all fly back to India, so as they do the same. As they return back to India, Vidya gets extremely happy and celebrates their homecoming.
After few days vidya celebrates her birthday with all her close friends. Whereas after the party overs vidya and Govind spend time with each other and during this they also cross all the boundaries.
second mistake
Omi’s uncle loses his son during a riot between two religions. Thereby his uncle also wants to retaliate from the opponent party. He gathers some victims and agitates them against the opponent.
Thereafter during these riots, Ali loses his parents and moreover, they are also behind him. Ishaan, Omi and Govind camouflage Ali in a bank. But after some while, they also attack this building and warn them to leave Ali alone. Ishaan does not want to leave him alone to die, thereby he persists. Whereas Govind is still quite reluctant about it and confused about the situation.
Meanwhile, omi’s uncle throws a sharp weapon in an order to kill Ali but omi while rescuing Ali loses his life. As his uncle sees him dead, he gets even angrier and again throws a weapon towards Ali. Although this was Govind’s time to save Ali from it, he is quite confused. He does not want to lose his life while saving Ali, as omi just lost.
THE THIRD MISTAKE
Govind gets quite selfish and lets the weapon hit Ali, but then finally he decides to save Ali, although it was too late by this time and the weapon hits Ali in which his wrist gets injured badly. Now Ali could not play cricket due to this injury.
Whereas this makes Ishaan super angry on Govind but then he somehow first manages to get them all out of that situation. Govind deems the decision of caring about himself over Ali as his third mistake .
Thereafter Ishaan and Govind get separated from each other. On one side Govind sells stationery items and on the other side of the store, Ishaan sells sports item.
Ishaan requires 5 lakh rupees in order to get Ali’s wrist fine again. Hereby Govind offers him some financial help but Ishaan refuses to it unless her mother herself convinces him. Moreover, vidya and Govind also apologizes to him.
Thereby Ishan finally forgives Govind and they hug each other and start crying.

Abhishek Kapoor directs this movie and Ronny Screwvala produces it. ”KAI PO CHE” was made with a budget of rupees 250 million and earned rupees 920 million. It was released on 22 February 2013 with a running time of 126 minutes.
Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Raj Kumar Rao play the characters of Ishaan, Omi and Govind respectively in the movie. Whereas Amrita puri plays the character of vidya.
”KAI PO CHE” has received six nominations at the 59th Filmfare awards. Abhishek Kapoor for best director and best screenplay, Raj Kumar Rao for the best-supporting actor, Sushant Singh Rajput for best male debut, and Hitesh sonic for best background score.

Who is chetan bhagat .
Chetan Bhagat was born on 22 April 1974 in Delhi.
His father was a lieutenant colonel in the Indian Army and mother was wok in the government agriculture department.
He did his engineering at IIT Delhi, after that he did MBA in IIM Ahmadabad. Then he married his classmate named Anusha. And then he shifted to Canada with his family.

Introduction Of Book
This book was written by famous Indian author and columnist Chetan Bhagat in 2008.
This is a friendship novel. The full story of this famous novel based on three friends in the city of Ahmedabad in western India.
The Three Mistakes Of My Life published on 1 January 2008 in the Gujarati language. This is one of the best book written by Chetan Bhagat and become the third best selling book of Chetan Bhagat.
Movie Kai Po Che is based on this book. And the public loves the movie.
This is a big success for the novel and Chetan Bhagat.
Main Characters Of The Story
GOVIND: He is the narrator of the story. He is business-minded person.
ISHAAN : He is a cricketer.
OMI : He is a guy, who has no plans for his future.
ALI: He is the best cricketer and student of the Ishaan.
GEETA: He is a sister of Ishan.
Summary Of The Book
The story begins with the Chetan Bhagat receiving an email from a person named Govind.
Which he mentioned that he had committed three big miskates of his life and that he wishes to commit suicide.
The writer gets terrified when he raised the email and contacts one of his old teachers regarding the email.
He tries to do some research about the guy and finds out that Govind is admitted to The Civil Hospital of Ahmedabad.
Chetan Bhagat goes to Gujrat and meets Govind at that hospital.
Story Start s
Govind starts telling a story in flashback. Three friends Ishaan, Govind and Omi left in the small town of the Ahmadabad.
Ishaan is a cricket player. He wants to join the Indian cricket team but unfortunately, he couldn’t.
Govind is good at maths but belongs to a poor family. That’s why he couldn’t get admission into an engineering college.
But Govind doesn’t feel bad about it. Because he doesn’t want to works under someone else.
He wants to start his own business.
The third friend Omi doesn’t know what to do in his life. He has no goals and no plans for the future. His father has a priest. But Omi doesn’t want to be like his father.
Once, the three friends decide to meet and discuss. Govind gets an idea to open a sports store and focus mainly on cricket products.
Turning Point
With the help of Omi, they can get a store instead of the temple for rent. As Ishaan was so much into cricket, he acquires more customers by giving tips to them about cricket.
The store gets a boost start because of Govind as he was a business-minded.
Govind realizes that the store is going well so, they decided to buy a shop in a shopping mall. He borrows money to pay the advance for a shop.
Due to some financial problems, Govind started to search to sell stationery material along with sports products.
For the expansion of business, Ishaan also starts giving cricket coaching in a compound. And to help Ishann Govind started to maths tutions.
Ishaan finds out a boy named Ali, who plays cricket very well. One time Ali geta dizzy while playing. Ishaan takes Ali to the doctor.
Where he knows that Ali has a hyper reflex problem. That’s why he plays good cricket. Ali can see reflexes10 times better than the normal person can.
That is why Ali gets tried very easily and starts having a headache. Ishaan likes Ali a lot so he starts to teach him cricket.
Ishaan has a sister named Vidya. She was preparing for the entrance exam. So, Ishaan requests Govind to teach mathematics to his sister.
Vidya gets attracted to Govind and starts falling in love with him. She also confesses her love for Govind by a card. After some time Govind also starts falling in love with Vidya.
One day suddenly the earthquake did. The shop in the shopping mall gets destroyed completely. Govind hears about this and breaks down.
He had already put in a lot of money in the shop.
This was the first mistake of his life , “Investing all his and his friend’s money in a single project.”
After some months….
There is a match between INDIA vs AUSTRALIA. At Goa. Ali and three friends reach Goa. Ishaan had train Ali in such a way that he doesn’t get tried soon.
Friedli an Australian cricketer. Ishaan tells Friedli about Ali’s problem. Friedli test Ali. And he was surprised by Ali’s performance. Friedli invites Ali to the Australian academy and arranges tickets for all of them.
Ali’s training begins in Australia.
Australian sports academy and the head of the EIES scholarship program meet Ali and offer him a scholarship.
But they also provide the condition that to attending this scholarship Ali has to become a citizen of Australia. Ali refuses a scholarship directly.
Govind and Vidya’s Realationship
Meanwhile, Govind and Vidya contact through calls.
After some time, on vidya’s birthday, they both come close and share some deep intense movements. They cross their limits.
This was the second mistake of his life. “The mistake of falling in love with his friend’s sister.”
Hindu-muslim riot.
Omi has an uncle whose son got killed in a Hindu-Muslim riot. So, Omi’s uncle turns furious and decides to burn the Muslims
His men Ali’s mother and father too. Ishaan, Govind, and Omi hide Ali in a building.
Omi’s uncle and his man reached building somehow, and orders Ali to come out as he was Muslim.
But Ishaan refuses. While saving Ali, Omi was killed. When Omi’s uncle saws Omi dying in front of him, he was filled with raised.
Then he throws a knife toward’s Ali.
Govind thinks to save Ali but realizes that he also may die. Govind becomes selfish. A few seconds later he decides to save Ali but it was too late. Ali gets hurt on his wrist by a knife thrown by Omi’s uncle.
This was the third mistake of Govind’s life. “If he hadn’t been selfish, he could have saved Ali without hurting him.”
Omi’s uncle also dies.
Ali’s hand not working. So, Ishaan starts ignoring Govind, that’s why the stores get half. One half is Ishaan cricket store and the other half is Govind’s stationery.
Also, Vidya’s family comes to know about her and Govind’s affair. They send Vidya out of town and restrict not to any contact with Govind.
But still Vidya contacts Govind.
Happy Ending
Ali’s wrist operation requires him 5 lakh Rupees. Ishaan clearly says no to Govind’s money. But one day Govind and Vidya came to Ishaan and apologize for their mistake.
Ishaan forgives Govind and they both meet each other.
Ali’s wrist recover and he starts playing cricket just like before.
This is a Happy ending of the story.
I give 10 out of 10 for this book.
Chetan Bhagat writes very simply. And it was a perfect book for youngsters. This novel by Chetan bhagat is a perfect combination of drama, masala, and reality.
This novel makes you Chetan Bhagat’s fan.

He went to college to study engineering, but he didn’t like it, so he now tells people to study math to support his family.
Ali is a little Muslim boy who is gifted in cricket and marble. Having developed a love and sense of business, he decided to involve his two best friends and they became partners. They started a cricket shop. Umi was supposed to ask his uncle to give them a shop in the temple. Ish was supposed to be giving cricket tutors to two children who wanted it because it was like a loved spot in India.
So it was God who was telling the story, and his first mistake was when he and his partners or friends decided to take a loan from Omi’s uncle and his mom so that they could buy a bigger shop at the mall, and he was always irritated whenever Umi’s uncle came to the shop and would be talking about religious stuff because he was an agnostic, you know, he was in the middle.
Because he’s someone who always knows, who always does research, i.e., buying a house with a sand foundation is something he should have known about or researched, so that was his second mistake, along with falling in love and having a sexual relationship with Ishi’s sister, who was also one of his students.
He was too strong because there is an unspoken rule among the guys that they don’t hit on their friend’s sister, and he’s a very logical person; he’s not someone who has on sentiment, so that was his second mistake. Dear Chetan,
This email is a combined suicide note and a confession letter. I have let people down and have no reason to live. You don’t know me. I’m an ordinary boy in Ahmedabad who read your books. And somehow I felt I could write to you after that. I can’t really tell anyone what I am doing to myself – which is taking a sleeping pill every time I end a sentence – so I thought I would tell you.
I kept my coffee cup down and counted. Five full stops already.
I made three mistakes; I don’t want to go into details.
My suicide is not a sentimental decision. As many around me know, I am a good businessman because I have little emotion. This is no knee-jerk reaction. I waited over three years, watched Ish’s silent face every day. But after he refused my offer yesterday. I had no choice left.
I have no regrets either. Maybe I’d have wanted to talk to Vidya once more – but that doesn’t seem like such a good idea right now.
Sorry to bother you with this. But I felt like I had to tell someone. You have ways to improve as an author but you do write decent books. Have a nice weekend.

17, 18, 19. Somewhere, in Ahmedabad a young ‘ordinary’ boy had popped nineteen sleeping pills while typing out a mail to me. Yet, he expected me to have a nice weekend. The coffee refused to go down my throat. I broke into a cold sweat.
‘One, you wake up late. Two, you plant yourself in front of the computer first thing in the morning. Are you even aware that you have a family?’ Anusha said. In case it isn’t obvious enough from the authoritative tone, Anusha is my wife.
I had promised to go furniture shopping with her – a promise that was made ten weeks ago.
She took my coffee mug away and jiggled the back of my chair.
‘We need dining chairs. Hey, you look worried?’ she said.
I pointed to the monitor.
‘Businessman?’ she said as she finished reading the email. She looked pretty shaken up too.
‘And it is from Ahmedabad,’ I said, ‘that is all we know.’
‘You sure this is real?’ she said, a quiver in her voice.
‘This is not spam,’ I said. ‘It is addressed to me.’
My wife pulled a stool to sit down. I guess we really did need some extra chairs.

About the Author
Chetan Bhagat is an Indian author and columnist. He was also included in Time magazine's list of World's 100 Most Influential People in the year 2010. Bhagat originally graduated in mechanical engineering at IIT Delhi and completed an MBA at IIM Ahmedabad. Initially, he started his career as an investment banker but left it after a few years in order to pursue his passion for writing.
‘Five Point Someone’, his first novel, was published in 2004. He has written nine novels and three non-fiction books till date. His novels have always been listed as bestsellers since the beginning.
About the Book
‘The 3 mistakes of my Life’ is the third bestseller novel by Chetan Bhagat. It was published in May 2008 and gathered an initial print-run of 4,20,000. The story follows the life of three friends of Ahmedabad.
The main story line is that in late-2000 in Ahmedabad, a young boy Govind dreams of having a business. To accommodate his friends Ish and Omi’s passion, eventually they open a cricket shop. Govind wants to make money and so, always thinks big. Ish’s life is all about to nurture Ali, who is a batsman with a rare gift. Omi among them, is completely different. He knows his limited capabilities and he just wants to be around his friends.
But, nothing comes easy in a turbulent rush city. To realize their life goals, the three of them will have to face it all– religious politics, earthquakes, riots, unacceptable love and above all, their own mistakes in existence. The book covers their struggles of how they make it or even not.
It is a story of a young Indian generation in this modern world who counters unpredictable love, thwarted ambitions, absence of family affection, pressure of a patriarchal set up and the work environment around a universalized office.
It also forces readers to question if an individual’s dreams could overcome the nightmares which are offered by real life and also, could we succeed even despite a few mistakes in the process. The book is based on real events, real circumstances and stories. While we all find Bhagat’s books as a common fun romance based, this book comes out as a dark, yet witty tale of modern India with a lot of enlightening issues and learning aspects.

The book has also been adapted into a Bollywood movie, Kai Po Che, and was directed by Abhishek Kapoor. The movie starred Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh & Rajkumar Rao. It was released in February 2013. Since the film and book were set in Gujarati, hence justifying its title, Kai Po Che.

The 3 Mistakes of my life is the third novel written by eminent Indian Author Chetan Bhagat. Based on cricket, business and religion, the novel is set against the backdrop of beautiful city Ahmedabad. Revolving around three young Indian boys Omi, Ishaan and Govind, the book goes on to narrate how the three are trying their best to make ends meet in the city.
Based on real events, the book starts with a dramatic twist, where Bhagat is reading an e-mail sent by some young person Govind, who has consumed sleeping pills for some reason and is writing to Bhagat, while waiting for his life to end. This book revolves around the three major mistakes committed by Govind in his life; he also happens to be the central character of the novel.
Govind dreams to be a successful businessperson, while his friend Ishaan loves cricket and with the help of Omi and his priest parents, they set up their first venture - a sports accessories’ shop in a rented place outside the temple premises.
Mostly revolving around these three young fellows, the novel has almost everything that youngsters in India can relate to; from budding love story and betrayal to death, riots and suicide, the book touches upon a wide range of emotions and common perceptions in India. Targeting young audiences, the 3 mistakes of my life is a simply written novel that like his previous work is filled with dramatic twists and turns that keep a reader glued to the book till the end.

It is really funny that how i ended up reading The 3 Mistakes of My life . I have watched the movie "3 Idiots" a thousand times and I knew it was the adaptation of one of Chetan Bhagat's novel. Since the title resembled i stated reading The 3 Mistakes of My Life with out realizing that i was reading wrong book.
A person from Ahmadabad write an email to his favorite author, that is Chetan Bhagat telling that he is going to over dose his sleeping pills because he had committed 3 great mistakes in his life. He wanted to say this to someone and he chose his favorite author. Bhagat become restless by reading this and goes to Ahmadabad to make sure he was okay, Bhagat finds him hospitalized, but he was shocked to see Bhagat. He wasnt even expecting that Bhagat would read his mail. Then Bhagat asks him to tell his story. That is the story of the novel.
Govid is the narrator of the story, he is a middle class person who wants to became a business person. So he starts a cricket shop along with his two best friends Ihaan, who wants to became a cricketer and Omi, who was from a Brahmin family. Ishaan had a sister who was preparing for entrance examinations. Govid helps her with mathematics in which she was a little weak. The story progresses with many complications and Govid ends up doing those three mistakes of his life for which he can not forgive himself.
I really enjoyed the book for its good story and strong characters. Story is really good that it appeals to our emotion. I read an e-book version of the novel, since it is not a long book i enjoyed reading it. There is a film adaptation as well titled "Kai Po Che." Overall it was a nice book and I would recommend this book.
