The Poland Tourist visa permits you to stay in Poland and realize your tourist activities for a maximum period of 90 days at most per 180 days .

Poland Transit Visa

What is an airport transit visa.

An airport transit visa allows you to change planes at a Polish airport for onward travel to a destination outside the Schengen Area. The visa (also referred to as an 'A' visa) does not allow you to enter Poland or another Schengen country. This means you cannot leave the airport nor the international zone of the airport.

In Poland (A) Transit Visa is not required if you remain in the transit zone of the airport in order to catch an onward or connecting flight within 24 hours of arrival. Transit visas are normally valid for a maximum of 3 days if travelling by air and 10 if travelling by train.

Changing Planes for Onward Travel within the Schengen Area: Short-stay Visa

If you are travelling to another Schengen country via Poland, you will need a short-stay Schengen visa. Airport transit visas are not valid for this purpose.

Changing Planes Two Times within the Schengen Area for Onward Travel Outside Schengen: Short-stay Visa

If you are transiting through two different Schengen airports for onward travel to a country outside Schengen and the first transit airport is in Poland, you need to apply for a short-stay Schengen visa. Airport transit visas are not valid for this purpose.

Regardless of whether or not you need an airport transit visa, it is the airline that decides to allow you onto the flight or not, even if you have the necessary documents for your journey.

You can Apply for an A-Type Visa Only if:

• You are planning to stay only in the airport's transit area and are not planning to leave it.  The A-Type visa does not authorize you to stay in the Schengen area.
• You are a citizen of one of the countries below: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka.

You do not need to Apply For an A-Type Visa if You:

• Hold a diplomatic passport,
• Are a member of an EU citizen's closest family,
• Hold a C-Type or D-Type visa or a residence permit issued by one of the EU Member States.
• Hold any of the residence permits listed in Annex V of the Community Code on Visas, issued by Andorra, Canada, Japan, San Marino, or the United States of America,
• Hold a valid visa of a European Economic Area country or Canada, Japan, or the United States of America, or you are returning from these countries after using such a visa.

Under certain circumstances, you do not require an airport transit visa. For example, if you:

• Have a visa or residence permit for a country in the Schengen Area, the EU or the EEA
• Have a visa for Canada, Japan, or the United States
• Have a residence permit guaranteeing an unlimited return for Andorra, San Marino, Canada, Japan, and the United States
• Are a family member of a citizen of the EU, EEA, or Poland (you need to be able to prove this)
• Hold a diplomatic passport.
• Hold a service or official passport. Please note: this only applies to nationals of certain countries.
• Are on-duty aircrew and a national of a country that is a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

As of February 2, 2020, you do not need an airport transit visa if you have a valid visa or a residence permit for Aruba, Curaçao, Sint-Maarten, Bonaire, Sint-Eustatius, or Saba.

Poland National Visa

Poland employment (national) visa & eu blue card, poland study (national) visa, poland family reunion visa, poland self-employment visa, poland au pair visa.

Even if your country is exempt from visa requirements, if you intend to stay longer than 90 days you will need to apply for a long-stay visa from your home country before coming to Poland.

The National Visa grants entry to Poland on the basis that you will be applying for a residence permit. It enables you to enter Poland as a potential resident and stay while you apply for residency. You will need to convert your visa into a residence permit within three months of arriving in Poland.

This visa is designed for applicants wishing to take up employment in Poland, as well as for high skilled persons who are candidates for a Blue Card of the European Union.

The EU Blue Card allows third-country nationals with a university degree to take up employment in Poland commensurate with their qualifications. Please note that potential Blue-Card holders need to earn a gross salary of 52.000 € or MINT profession (Mathematics / Informatics / Natural Sciences / Technology) require at least 40.560€ and shall have found a position in their field of study.

9. Knowledge of Language, for Cases of Confirmed University Admission and Confirmed Admission to a Preparation Course for University

• Proof of language proficiency in English (TOEFL/IELTS), if the course is taught in English
• Proof of language proficiency in Polish, by a recognized institute, if the course is taught (partially) in Polish.

• Certificate of registration (zameldowanie), lease agreement, the decision on the provision of the dormitory, other types of accommodation proof.

• Cost of accommodation (documents must be submitted in a way the consul will be able to estimate the cost of living, e.g., lease agreement, a decision on the provision of a dormitory, etc.).

E.g., Applicant for a 365-day visa must have at least 10912 PLN (701 PLN x 12 months + 2500 PLN) to cover the cost of return and living expenses and additional funds to cover the cost of accommodation. If the monthly payment for a dormitory or renting an apartment is 1000 PLN, then the cost of accommodation will be: 1000 PLN x 12 months = 12000 PLN per year. In total, the applicant needs at least 22912 PLN.

• Certificate of the amount of the credit card limit issued by the bank (any bank located in Poland or another country is allowed)
• A certificate of availability of money in a bank or a cooperative savings and loan association located on the territory of the Republic of Poland (it cannot be a bank located in your country)

• A certificate of employment with a monthly salary statement

How long am I allowed to stay in Poland with a 1, 3, 5 years valid multiple-entry Schengen visa?

This visa gives permission to its holder to enter the Schengen Area (all 26 member States) as many times as they wish, within a period of 1, 3, 5 years. However, even in this case, the visa holder is limited to remaining in the Schengen Area no longer than 90 days within a 180-day period.

How long is my Poland visa valid for?

Schengen visas are valid for a maximum of 90 days (within 180 days) from your arrival date. The Schengen visa is not valid before the arrival date you provide on your visa application.

An airport transit visa is valid for the period it takes you to transfer between flights in a Poland airport.

National visas are usually issued for three months but can be valid up to 12 months, depending on your reason for requesting a visa. The national visa will cover you while your residence permit application is processed.

What happens if my Poland visa application is rejected?

If your Poland visa application is rejected, you will be notified by your mission that your application has been unsuccessful. You will be informed of the grounds on which it was rejected and have one month to appeal the decision by writing to the Polish mission. Your application will then be reconsidered. You can also apply for a visa again if your circumstances have changed.

Can I submit my visa application through mail, a courier, or through another person?

Will my fees be refunded if my visa is refused?

All fees are non-refundable and will not be refunded if your visa application is not successful.

Can I study in Poland with a Schengen Visa?

Yes. You can study in Poland with a Schengen Visa, if your education program is less than 90 days, you do not need a national visa.

Can I work in Poland with a Schengen Visa?

No. You generally cannot work in Poland with a Schengen Visa. If you come to Poland as a temporary foreign worker, you need to apply for a national visa in advance.

Can I extend the validity of my Poland visa?

It is possible to extend the validity of visas only in exceptional cases, such as a natural disaster. This must be done at the Foreigners’ Office covering your area of residence.

Can a Schengen visa be extended or transferred to a residence permit?

A Schengen visa is issued for a maximum period of stay of three months and cannot be extended. A cover letter is an essential document you should prepare while applying for the Poland Employment National visa. Along with all the other documents, the cover letter should also be presented to the Embassy. The cover letter is also needed while re-appealing after a visa refusal.

As it’s in the name, a cover letter is a letter covering your purpose and intention of going to Poland. I have seen many visas being rejected because they didn’t have a proper cover letter to support their documents.

Though often neglected in European travel itineraries, Poland is a country that has more to offer than you might think. From its unique placement at the heart of Europe to its lively culture and vibrant cities, you’d be mistaken to give it a pass.

Poland has a tricky language. Curious as to why? — Because is the only country in the world where Polish is the national and official language. As an EU member, Polish is also an official language of the Union.

Foreigners are quick to point out just how hard Polish can be to learn as a beginner. If you already speak a language Polish is closely related to, such as Czech, you might have a different view. However, for most, Polish remains very tough to master indeed.

What makes Polish so unique is that it features many sounds not found in almost any other language. 

More than that, it uses a modified Latin alphabet to represent these sounds – unlike even most other Slavic tongues.

For centuries, Poland has been at the heart of Christian Europe , with a very devout Catholic population that rivals only that of Italy in its dedication to the church.

With that in mind, it is easy to imagine the excitement when a young Polish cardinal called Karol Józef Wojtyła was elected to be pope in 1978. He took on the name Jan Paweł II, or John Paul II as it is often rendered in English.

Today, the former pope is commemorated all over Poland. His likeness is displayed in the form of statues, postage stamps, and on coins, and other memorabilia.

He is considered one of the most beloved Polish citizens to have ever lived and remains a national role model and icon.

An Overview of Schengen Visafor Short-term Stay in Poland

Poland is a part of the Schengen area  i.e. a group of countries which carry out no checks at their common borders and which have brought their efforts to fulfill the right of free movement of persons to a successful end.

In order to enter Poland as a Philippine passport holder (and any other countries in the Schengen zone), you must obtain a Schengen Visa first.  You can get a tourist visa (if touring the country is your primary purpose) or a visit visa (if your main objective is to visit a family, friend, or significant other).

With a Schengen Visa, you may come and stay to Poland for up to 90 days total starting from the date of entry to the date of exit.  This 90-day stay may start and end anytime within the dates stipulated in the visa validity period (180 days).

Poland Visa Conditions for Philippine Citizens

If you are a Philippine passport holder and you are planning to apply for a Polish Schengen visa, you must fulfill these conditions:

• Poland is your main destination . It means that you will visit Poland only and have no plans of visiting any other neighboring Schengen country ( sa Poland ka lang pupunta at mag-stay ); or
• You will stay the longest in Poland . You have plans of visiting other Schengen countries, but Poland is where you will be staying the longest. ( Pupunta ka pa sa ibang Schengen countries, pero sa Poland ang pinaka-mahabang stay mo ).

Example: You will stay in Poland for 14 days to visit a family member or a relative. After that, you will go to Belgium, France, and Germany for a 2-week side trip, before returning to the Philippines.

• The main purpose of your travel is in Poland. You have plans of visiting other Schengen countries, but the focus of your travel is in Poland.
• Poland is your port of entry. You have plans of visiting multiple Schengen countries for the same number of days, pero Poland ang iyong first point of entry .

Important Documents to Prepare

All Poland visa applications will be coursed through VFS Global Poland Schengen Visa Application Center.

You can submit your application up to 6 months before, but no later than 15 days before your intended departure date. If you apply less than 15 days ahead, there may not be enough time for your application to be processed as this takes at least 15 days.

Now, depending on your circumstance or Visa type that you wish to apply for, click the symbol ‘▼‘  below to view the corresponding requirements for each section. Take note that I have listed the requirements in order   — meaning that the Embassy requires you to arrange these documents in such order upon submission  (so take note of the order/numbering below).

Of course, always make sure that you have authentic, original, and complete documents at all times.

Below are the list of documents that are required to be submitted when applying for a Poland Schengen Visa for the purpose of tourism or visiting family or friends in this Schengen area.

Note: Prepare two sets of each document—one original set and one photocopy.

1.   A duly filled out and signed  Schengen Visa Application Form .  You may download the form by signing up  here .

Form must be filled out on-line, printed out and signed personally by the applicant (for minors, the application shall be signed personally by at least one of the parents or a legal guardian while submitting the application).

All entries should be properly filled out – no blanks.

2.  Two current biometrical passport photos

• Size 35 x 45 mm
• White background
• Not older than 6 months
• Printed on high quality paper
• Complying with ICAO guidelines (International Civil Aviation Organization)

3.   Original Passport and a Photocopy of it as well as the Bio Page – must be valid at least 3 months calculating from the date of intended departure from the Schengen area.

Must contain at least two blank visa pages, excluding the endorsements pages.

Not older than 10 years (extended passports are not accepted).

4. Travel Insurance  – the coverage must be applied during the entire duration of the trip and must be valid for all Schengen countries. Coverage sum must be AT LEAST EUR 30,000 (Php 2.5 million or USD 50,000). I highly recommend Pioneer Insurance which you can avail yourself through me. 5. Documents indicating the purpose of the journey and countries to be visited  – At this part, it’s good practice to include a cover letter along with this itinerary document so that you can properly explain the purpose of your trip. 6. A copy of your roundtrip flight reservation . Do NOT buy flight tickets before the visa is issued because the Polish Embassy would NOT take any responsibility for the costs you’ll incur if your visa gets denied. 7. Proof of Accomodation, copy(ies) . These are confirmed hotel reservation(s) only for the entire duration of your stay in the Schengen countries containing the name and contact details of the hotel(s) as well as the reservation number.

8. Proof of financial capacity  to show that you (or your sponsor) can support your expenses for the whole duration of your travel.

• For those traveling without a sponsor:  this means that you will cover all your expenses during the entire duration of your travel.

• Bank statements  – must show records of the past six months. A bank statement shows your transactions in your account at a specific period. It will show debits (withdrawals, payments, taxes, service fees) and credits (deposits, interest earned.) Bank Statements can also be seen online especially if you have a registered account. There is no signature for the manager or a bank officer.
• Bank Certificate  – it is a confirmation by the branch manager or a bank officer that you have an existing account in their bank. It shows the account number, the type, and other details such as the opening date of your account, your account balance as of the date of request, and your average daily balance. 
• Other proof of income  (supporting documents) – although it is not really required, you can submit invoices and pay slip equivalent to prove that you earn enough to support this trip financially. 

9. Evidence of your rootedness in the Philippines – Evidence of deep-rootedness a.k.a. strong family and social ties to your home country, is  one of the most critical requirements when applying for a Schengen Visa . It is what the Consul will look for in your visa application. So how do you prove that you are firmly established in the Philippines and that you will go back to your home country? This can either be: Confirmation of employment / private business / studies / pension

You need to convince them that you will return to the Philippines.  Insufficient evidence of deep-rootedness to your home country is also one of the chief reasons for visa denial.

For company employees – original letter from employer confirming the position in the company, date of employment, salary for the last 6 months and period of holidays granted (certificate of leave of absence). The letter must include the name and position of the person who signed the certificate, registration and contact details of the company. For private business – confirmation of business registration, license, income tax return, business financial statement; For students – proof of enrolment, certificate from the school with confirmation of leave of absence and the valid student’s ID card. You may be also requested to submit a student’s record-book; > Recent certificate of enrollment from the school > Letter authorizing the student’s absence from school For pensioners – pension certificate indicating the amount of pension; For unemployed – a written and signed explanation on the applicant’s labour situation; For Solo parents: › A copy of your birth certificate- PSA Authenticated › A copy of your child/children’s birth certificate- PSA Authenticated › Solo parent ID › Barangay Certification as Solo parent › Notarized Affidavit of Solo Parent with Undertaking › Money remittances to support your dependents For those who are supporting or watching over the health/well-being of the family: › A copy of my parent’s birth certificates- PSA Authenticated › If parents are already Senior Citizens: a copy of their Senior Citizen ID and Barangay Certification as Senior Citizens › If parents have sickness/ illness: Medical history of parents (diabetes, hypertension, etc.) Documents confirming ownership of real estate property in the Philippines (if applicable) > Land titles > Car registration certificates > Deeds of Sale For Minors > Joint affidavit of both parents or legal guardians granting consent > Photocopies of the passports of both parents or legal guardians > Birth certificate of the minor. Must be recent, original, and issued by PSA. > DSWD Clearance , if the minor is not traveling with either parent or legal guardian

Aside from the same documents under Category A Checklist, below are some additional documents that you need to add or to prepare: 

10.   A Copy of the host’s/ guarantor’s passport

11. Invitation letter / officially registered invitation (“ZAPROSZENIE”)  – Please note that there is no obligation in registering official invitation in Poland by the host person – this procedure is a choice as it is connected with legal responsibilities. Regular invitation letter issued by the host person (not registered at “Urząd Wojewódzki” ) must indicate personal data of the inviting and invited parties, the purpose and duration of the visit, the place of residence of the applicant, relations between the host and applicant, a written commitment to cover the applicant’s living, return and healthcare costs if necessary, signature of the inviting party.

Additionally, if the invitation is not officially registered at “Urząd Wojewódzki” the applicant will be requested to submit a document proving the host’s ability of covering costs associated with the applicant’s stay as well as a document confirming the host’s legal title to the residential premises or a document confirming the host’s ability of providing accommodation to the applicant elsewhere, e.g. an ownership act, rent contract, reservation in the hotel.

12. Travel history of the sponsor in case of non-formalized relationship (boyfriend/girlfriend)

13. Documents proving family ties with apostille stamp or legalized by the competent authorities issued with the past 6 months –  The certification must be submitted only if the applicant and the host person are relatives, e.g. marital status, birth certificates, etc.

14. Marriage certificate certified with apostille stamp or legalized by the competent authorities issued within the past 6 months-  If family member of Polish/EU/EEA citizens only.

15. Confirmation of sufficient financial means for the applicant – e.g. bank statements presenting the transactions / movements of the last 6 months or the tax clearance for the previous year.

Please note that officially registered invitation (“Zaproszenie”) may confirm financial means for the applicant. Nevertheless, presentation of regular income does prove ties with the country and may serve as one of the guarantors of return before the visa expiration.

16. Confirmation of sufficient financial means for the host person / guarantor –  e.g. notary sponsorship letter covering the period of the requested visa, bank statements presenting the transactions / movements of the last 6 months or tax clearance for the previous year. Please note that a document proving financial means is not required when officially registered invitation is presented.

NOTE:   If in case you are a Philippine national living or residing in a foreign country and you wish to avail a Schengen tourist visa, kindly inquire with the appropriate Polish Embassy in the country that you’re living/residing in about the requirements and procedures that you need to take ( as the process and requirements will not be similar).

Also, the Polish Embassy may request more information or additional documents other than those listed above in order to verify the contents and truthfulness of the documents you’ve submitted.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Apply for a Schengen Visa to Poland

If you are currently living in the Philippines and you are a citizen of this country, then you will need to apply for a visa to be able to visit Poland.

The  Embassy of Poland in Manila, Philippines processes visa applications, but you will submit your application to VFS Global  in Manila or Cebu.

You can apply up to 6 months before you intend to travel to Poland, but no more than 15 days before. This is because it takes 15 days for a decision to be made. If you apply less than 15 days before, there may not be enough time for your application to be processed.

Step 1:   Determine the type of Polish Schengen visa you need to apply for and have a look at the checklist of requirements to gather all the documents that you need to submit.

The first step is to determine which  visa type  you need, and check whether you’re eligible to apply for it.

You’ll also need to know the documents that you’ll have to submit along with your application,  how long the application might take  and fees you’ll have to pay.

Each application must comply with the guidelines applicable for your visa category.

Step 2:  Begin your Visa Application. Get started with you visa application.

Once you are ready to apply, please  fill the visa application form  and arrange your documents as per the checklist. 

Step 3:  Schedule your appointment online with VFS Global

When it comes to the Polish Embassy, they do visa applications via their external service provider, VFS Global . You can just walk into VFS without an appointment — but only from 7:00AM to 9:00AM from Monday to Friday. It’s from 9:00AM to 2:00PM on Mondays to Fridays that booked appointments are accommodated.  There are two locations:

VFS Visa Application Center – Manila Ground Flr., Ecoplaza Building 2305 Don Chino Roces Ave, Extension, Makati, Metro Manila

VFS Visa Application Center – Cebu Unit 503, 5th Floor, Keppel Center Samar Loop cor. Cardinal Rosales Avenue Cebu Business Park, Cebu City

Once you have filled your visa form, you need to  book an appointment  to have your fingerprints and photo taken at a Visa Application Centre. This is known as ‘biometric information’ . 

Once you’ve booked your appointment, you’ll receive an appointment confirmation email along with the letter of appointment.

Step 4:  Pay the Visa Fee.

This must be paid in cash and it helps to prepare the exact amount in Philippine peso only. Once paid, they will give you a payment receipt (that has your application reference number and details) which you should keep. If you lose this receipt, VFS will not release your visa and passport; they will only release it after you give them a notarized affidavit of loss.

If you download the form to print and bring to the Visa Application Centre, payment can be made at the time of your appointment.

Step 5:  Wait for the results of your Polish Schengen Visa application

You will receive an email update when your decision has been returned to the Visa Application Centre. If you can’t access email easily, or would like more detailed tracking information, you may also be able to get updates by SMS sent directly to your phone. Check whether this service is available at the Visa Application Centre you are visiting.

You can also  track your visa application status online .  Use the Reference Number present on the invoice/receipt issued by the Visa Application Centre along with your last name to access this service.

Some other things to remember:

• If you cannot come personally to pick up your documents, you may send a representative in your behalf with your authorization letter, photocopy of your ID, payment receipt, and a valid ID with picture of your representative.
• You may also opt to have your documents sent back to you through courier for an extra fee to be settled with VFS upon submission of your application. However, sending passports via courier is at the applicant’s own risk. The Polish Embassy assumes no resposibility for this. (Delivery will be done in 1-3 days within Metro Manila and 2-5 days if the address is in the province. Should the mailing address be outside a serviceable area, you may have to pick up your passport in the nearest courier branch.)
• Naturally, the Polish Embassy will also NOT assume any responsibility if your visa application be rejected. And if it does get rejected, you will be given an information sheet  that shows the procedures you can take in order to ask for an appeal.

Here are the common reasons a Schengen Visa application gets denied:

• No clear travel purpose —a detailed cover letter is a must!
• Lack of strong ties —reevaluate your application and prove why you must return to your home country!
• Insufficient travel insurance coverage —make sure you get the right policy!
• No proof of financial means —convince them that you can afford your trip! Provide bank or credit card statements, VUL, investment portfolio, etc.
• Passport does not have 2 free pages —where will they attach the visa if your passport pages are already full? You should get a new passport before applying for a visa if there are no more available pages on your old one!
• No proof of accommodation —you need to prove them that you have a place to stay in the Schengen Area.

Student visa requirements of poland.

Study in Poland requires some special documents that you need to present in order to apply for a student visa. There are some extra requirements especially if you are from Pakistan, India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, etc. So make sure you get in hand all documents before visiting the Polish embassy in your country or the region. Below are some major documents that you must include before applying for a student visa. However, you must consult the local Polish mission (embassy) in your country of origin for complete and correct documents.:

• Recent photographs of the applicant, passport sized.
• Duly filled visa application form. This form must be signed by the applicant. If you are under 18, the visa form must be signed by both parents. • Photocopy of your identity card.
• Your original passport with a minimum of 3 months expiry date after the completion of your visa. The passport must have few empty pages for a new visa sticker to be placed. You must present all previous passports too with photocopies.
• If you reside in a country of which you are not national, then present a valid visa or residence permit.
• Visa refusals of previous applications.
• Family Registration Certificate (photocopy and original) issued by NADRA (in English or with a certified translation if in Urdu) (for Pakistani nationals)
• Affidavit of sponsorship (proof of sufficient financial means of your sponsor,  income, and the last six months bank statements), attested by a Public Notary in Pakistan. ( You do not need these if you have a Polish scholarship.)
• Last three salary slips (in case you work)
• Personal original bank statements of the last six months.
• Unconditional Letter of acceptance letter from a Polish university.
• The fee deposit receipt.
• Proof of accommodation you have availed in Poland.
• Letter from IBCC (Inter Board Committee of Chairmen) proving that you are eligible to study at any National/International University. (for Pakistani nationals)
• Proof of English language proficiency test such as: * TOEFL {Test of English as a Foreign Language} (minimum score of 550 points for the Paper Based Test or 213 points for the Computer Based Test) or IELTS {International English Language Testing System} (Band 6.0)
• You must provide proof of possession of 800 zlotych or the equivalent in foreign currency, so as to be able to cover the costs of living and lodging for each month of the stay throughout the whole time of study or the first year if the stay is to be longer.
• Don’t forget to add any other certificates – according to school requirements.
• Proof of health insurance for the whole period of stay in Poland or travel health insurance policy.
• Copy of flight booking(s) – both ways.

Important Note

There is an important factor that counts towards visa award, that if you are going to study with a paid program, a proof of payment covering the first year of studies or its full term. On the other hand, if the course consists of less than a year, it is necessary to show that you held funds in the amount sufficient to cover the cost of studies, provided in the declaration. The embassy or consulate may ask for additional documents.
